The new Trinoma mall located at the North Triangle fronting SM City has a mini park at the 7th level. It is ideal if all you want is a nice stroll or a quiet dinner, and you need to rest your legs from all that walking.
I have two projects that brought me researching in Trinoma: soup and adhesives. Nice combination, eh? Actually I could have gone to a nearer mall but hey, it's a good excuse to explore the place, yah?
Anyway, I'm sure SM feels threatened in a way. It used to lord over the retail landscape in the country. The malls started out as really ugly gray concrete boxes. There's nothing like competition to jazz up the field. SM now cares about aesthetics. Gone are the gray behomoths that added to the woeful urban blight we see everyday. In fact, SM City nowadays looks different compared to when we were in college, Marc :)

yeah, SM Mall. It has gone a long way from that ugly gray facade to a more vibrant look and feel. Of course, I still remember having a jeepney that plies SM City - UP Diliman route. So convenient for us then, to watch movies / stroll / window shop everytime we had the opportunity... ganun tlaga pag promdi hahaha. I think SM is still THE Mall so to speak, it's really mass based but with new malls sprouting up all over the city, SM has no way but to re-invent itself. Over the weekend, i was in Manila, I saw how crowded a place like Serendra can be on a weekend, i believe spill over from Market Market... which made me think, if 90% of Filipinos are living below poverty, why do we have all these upscale malls??
The 90% estimate is grabeh naman, but I'm sure I'm part of that 90% :)
I got that estimate from a column I read at Inquirer... well, depends on which criteria you use for what is "poverty line"...:) But strolling arnd serendra, greenbelt area - you can't seem to find any trace/ sign of poverty in the Philippines!
Ha, being a free lancer earning USD, spending PHP, you must be in the top 10%!!!
